What's On Tap for Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati USA 2007

The 32nd annual Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati this Sept. 22 and 23 will spotlight the $42-million renovation of Cincinnati's iconic Fountain Square, made famous 30 years ago this September by the debut of "WKRP in Cincinnati" on the nation's airwaves. More than 500,000 are expected to attend the nation's largest Oktoberfest.
The square, featuring the Tyler Davidson Fountain, has undergone extensive renovation over the past two years. The Downtown renaissance has spawned the opening of a number of restaurants around Fountain Square, including McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant, Boi Na Braza and Cadillac Ranch, among many others.
The 2007 Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati will stretch five blocks of Fifth Street, from Race Street to Broadway in downtown Cincinnati, and will feature five stages showcasing continuous live German music as well as more than 40 food and drink vendors. A number of fine hotels adjoin the Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati site, including The Cincinnatian Hotel, the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza, the Hyatt Regency Cincinnati, the Millennium Hotel Cincinnati, The Terrace Hotel and the Westin Hotel Cincinnati.
Event runs 11 a.m. to midnight Saturday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
Heuboden Musikanten to play at Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati 2007
Each year, Oktoberfest Zinzinnati looks to the motherland to find an authentic German musical act to join in North America's largest Oktoberfest celebration. This year, we are proud to welcome, all the way from Bavaria, Germany, The Heuboden Musikanten Band. Translated to mean "barn loft musicians" in English, The Heuboden Musikanten Band is an ensemble of 37 members, 15 of which make up the traveling band. While they are most famous for their polkas, the group is also adept at playing waltzes, marches and concert music.
So, if you're interested in some genuine German oom-pah-pah, be sure to catch The Heuboden Musikanten Band at the P&G Stage on Fountain Square Saturday from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m., or Sunday 2:30-6 p.m.
Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati also will showcase five specially commissioned alpenhorns during the performances of the Heuboden Musikanten Band.
Cincinnati Reds icon Joe Nuxhall to lead World’s Largest Chicken Dance
The youngest player ever to play Major League Baseball will demonstrate his continuing zest for life when Cincinnati Reds icon and broadcaster Joe Nuxhall leads tens of thousands of partyin’ poultry in the World’s Largest Chicken Dance at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, on historic Fountain Square in Downtown Zinzinnati. “The Ol’ Lefthander” becames the second sports figure to lead the World’s Largest Chicken Dance, following on the heels of Cincinnati Bengals All-Pro wide receiver Chad Johnson, who led the 2006 version of the dance.

Trace your German roots
The German Hamburg Marketing GmbH will present Hamburg's latest attraction: BallinStadt – History of Emigration. At the BallinStadt booth, learn about an easy and authentic way to trace your roots in Germany, and "visit" the port where many began their journey to the New World. This new museum is dedicated to the five million people who emigrated via Hamburg - most to the United States, the result being that today, every fifth American has German roots.
