Zinzinnati Boasts Numerous Landmarks Created Or Inspired By German-Americans

Zinzinnati just wouldn't be Zinzinnati without the influence of the German-American community. Two of Zinzinnati's most beloved landmarks are associated with German heritage: The Roebling Suspension Bridge, built by Johann A. Roebling, and the Tyler-Davidson Memorial Fountain, which was completed in Munich under the direction of Ferdinand von Miller to depict the Genius des Wassers.

The German architectural impact ripples through Over-the-Rhine and other areas of Zincinnati. Landmarks created or inspired by German-Americans include:

Cincinnati Zoo
Cincinnati Park System

The imprint of the German-American community can be seen in the material culture and architectural styles that originated in the Over-the-Rhine district and spread to other areas of the city. Over-the-Rhine, an area of approximately 213 acres, was the central geographical locale of Zinzinnati's Germany-American community in the 1800s.
